Purple cardstock, lavender cardstock,  mounting tape, opaque white ink, double sided tape, Copic Alcohol Ink Markers ( V01, V04, V05, V09), X-Press It Blending Cardstock or Copic compatible white paper. 

Cut a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch top folding card from white cardstock.   Cut 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 inch base layer mat from purple cardstock.  Using the Butterfly Kisses Paper Collection, cut a layer at 5 x 5 inches and sponge the edges with  the Guacamole Fluid Chalk Inkpad.   Adhere the layers using double sided tape. 

Stamp the butterfly image from the Butterfly Kisses stamp set using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Color the image with the following Copic Markers ( V01, V04, V05, V09).  Cut with the corresponding die.   Cut 4 additional butterflies from purple cardstock.   Bend the wings up on each butterfly layer. Adhere the center of each layer using Designer Dries clear adhesive and allow to dry.     Adhere a small amount of Crystal Clear glitter to one side of the body.   

Cut the large frame from dark purple cardstock and lavender cardstock. Glue the two frames together and allow to dry.  Adhere the frame to the designer paper.   Cut the small lace medallion frame from lavender cardstock. Adhere to the center of the large frame.    Cut a dark purple circle using the Butterfly Kisses die set and glue to the center of the frame.   Adhere the Silver Gala Glitz to the purple circle using Dries Clear Adhesive.

Cut another dark purple and lavender circle and adhere together.   Die cut the sentiment "Thank You" from the same set using purple cardstock.  Mount the sentiment on the lavender circle. Position and adhere the butterfly as shown in the picture as shown.   Pop the sentiment up using mounting tape.

Violet cardstock, double sided tape,  molding paste, palate knife, glue gun, pearls, Gala Glitz - Gold, heat tool, Detail Black Embossing Powder, Versamark Embossing Ink, Copic Alcohol Ink Markers    (V000, V00, B01, V05, B09, YG 61, YG63, YB67),  Vintage Photo Distress Ink Pad, X-Press it Blending Cardstock. 

Create a top fold card base by cutting heavy white cardstock at 5 `/2 inches x 11 inches.  Score and fold  at 5 1/2 inches.   Cut a dark violet cardstock at 5 1/4 inches x 5 `/4 inches.  Adhere the layers with double sided tape.   Select the designer paper with the little bird from the Lush Lilac Paper Collection.   Position the paper to allow the birds to be in in upper right hand side after cutting at 5 x 5 inches. Sponge the corners of the designer paper with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Stamp three of the lilac clusters from the Lush Lilac & Umbrella Spray Cling Stamp Set on X-Press It Blending Cardstock or any Copic compatible paper. I used Memento Elderberry ink. The images were colored with Copic Alcohol Ink Markers (V000, V00, B01, V05, B09, YG 61, YG63, YB67).   I  chose Elderberry to stamp the image because the color worked well for the lilacs and allowed the greenery to have shadow areas when the green marker was placed on top.   The images were die cut with the coordinating die.  The images were lightly shaped with the Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit and molding paste was applied on the underside to allow it to maintain the shape. Allow to dray overnight.   Ranger Clear Crackle Paint was applied and the images were sprinkled with Frosting Powder and heat set.  the image was lightly sponged in highlight areas with a small amount of Wisteria ColorBox Chalk Ink.  

Gala Gliz was applied the designer paper using Designer Adhesive -Clear.   I used gold Gala Glitz  but white or silver would be beautiful.  While it is drying, die cut the birdcage from  the Sweet Scroll & Notes Die Set.    Apply pearls to the birdcage and adhere the birdcage over the Gala Glitz using Designer Dries Clear Adhesive.  Adhere the lilac to the left side of the card. I used a glue gun for extra strength.

Stamp the sentiment from the Sweet Scroll & Notes Cling Stamp Set with Versamark.  Emboss with Detail Black embossing powder and heat set.  Die cut using the heart and eyelet heart from the Eyelet Heart Die Set (Heartfelt Love Collection).   Adhere to the lower right corner of the birdcage using mounting tape.

Create a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch top folding card from heavy white cardstock.  Cut base layer from green layering cardstock at 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches.   Select the green designer paper from  the Singing  in the Rain Collection and cut at 5 x 5 inches.   Adhere the layers and cut a window in the center of the card using Circle Basics Large Die and Eyelet Circle and Basics Small Die.   Cut an eyelet circle for a decorative layer around the window.  Adhere the layers with double sided tape and the eyelet layer around the window with Designer Dries Clear Adhesive.   

Stamp the fairy image from the Songs of Spring Stamp Set on X-Press It Blending Cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Dye Ink.   Color the image with Copic Alcohol Ink Markers. (Skin tone- E000, E00, E11, E24, R20,  Hair - C3, C5,  C6, C8, Dress/Boots - B00, B21, B24, B28, Wings - BV00, BV01, RV00, RV 01,  Wings - BV00, BV01, RV00, RV01, Bird - B000, B00, B21, Branch - E57, E35, Flowers - RV00, RV21, RV34, Leaves - G40, G45 ).  Die cut the image with the corresponding die.   

Stamp the rose petals from the Classic Rose Collection using Butter ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink.  Sponge with Squeezed Lemonade Distress and Lime Pastel ColorBox Ink.  Lightly mist with water using the mini mister and shape using the Rose Molding Plates.   Add additional shaping with the Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit if desired.   Adhere the petals, off-setting each layer.  Adhere them with Designer Dries Clear Adhesive.  Cut the leaves from green cardstock and sponge with Memento Olive Grove Ink.   Shape with the Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit.  Adhere  Ranger Clear Crackle Paint and  lightly sprinkle Rajni's Frosting Powder.  Lightly heat set.   Adhere the leaves and roses around the lower left side of the window with a hot glue gun.    Adhere the fairy image overlapping the upper right side of the window.  Avoid applying the glue gun to the part of the image that hangs over the open part of the window.

 Wine cardstock, ivory cardstock, Versamark, heat tool,  Copic Markers ( Leaves - YG21, YG61, YG63, YG67,  Petals -  YG65, YG67,  RV61, RV63, RV66), glue gun, double sided tape, distress tool, Gold Gala Glitz.




Create a 6 x 7 inch side fold card from ivory paper. Cut wine cardstock at 5 x 6 1/2 inches.   

Stamp the Forever Love Background Stamp on the wine cardstock with Versamark and Embossing Enamel - Aged Ivory.   Set with a heat tool.  Distress the edges of the wine cardstock.   Adhere  to the right  side of the card base, leaving a margin as shown.   Apply Designer Dries Clear Adhesive to the left side of the card and apply Gala Glitz.    We are out of the Gold but the white or silver would be gorgeous!   Allow to dry. 

Stamp the Sun Kissed Fleur Petals on Art Foam Paper.  I used Memento Rhubarb Stalk but StazOn works the best for Art Foam.    The Leaves were stamped using Olive Grove.   The petals and leaves were colored with the following Copic Alcohol Ink - ( Leaves - YG21, YG61, YG63, YG67,  Petals -  YG65, YG67,  RV61, RV63, RV66).   Die cut the images with the coordinating die.   The petals were lightly heated with a  heat tool and shaped with the Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit.   Assemble and punched  a small hole in the center with a small tool  and insert the Bright pearl - Medium stamens through the center or each.

Cut the eyelet heart from wine cardstock and two nested hearts from the Heartfelt Love Paper Collection, die using the Eyelet Hearts Die set.  Adhere the flowers and leaves on the hearts as shown with a glue gun.   Create a coordinating dimensional  envelope or  tie a beautiful bow around the card  and it's  ready to give to someone special!

 How great is that!

And now for the tutorial!    Have you ever wondered how people get that fun furry look on the cute little bears they color?   Well - there are  a variety of ways!   I will show a quick sample of 4 ways to accomplish that furry look and a quick video  tutorial on how to do the terry cloth technique!  I actually filmed all techniques but it made for a long video so I cropped it to show only one technique.      I hope this inspires you to try this!   

I am using Copic Alcohol Ink markers for today's tutorial.  I used the same  Taupe color combo on all the techniques.  I like to keep my mid-tones about 70% of the image unless I am wanted a dramatic lighting effect.   

Shadow - E47

Dark mid-tone - 44

Light mid-tone - E42 

Highlight - E40    

Video Using Terry Cloth and 70% Alcohol

Let's take a closer look at each technique.

Add Texture with a Terry Cloth and 70% Alcohol

• The video shows step by step how I created the texture using  a terry cloth and 70% alcohol.   It is a fun technique that I really love.   It's always a bit of a surprise when the cloth is lifted off the image! 
• Color the image with your shadow, mid-tone and highlights using short flicking strokes.   It is very difficult to add this dimension after you have added texture.
• Do not color the rest of the image until you are finished texturizing and your image is dry.   If you colored the cup, ground and donuts first, the color may bleed into your brown fur.  
• When you are finished coloring your image and pleased with the dimension, select a terry cloth and fluff it up with your fingers so all the little bumps stand up and aren't flat. 
• Apply some 70% alcohol to the cloth.   You will want to make sure it is damp but NOT sopping wet.  
• Place  the palm of your hand over the terry cloth and hold for 4-5 seconds.  Lift and allow to dry. Tip_  70% alcohol is best.  90% alcohol will evaporate too fast. 
• For a final touch, take a small corner of the cloth with a little alcohol and dab for 4 seconds at any area that needs more texture.   
• Take your lightest marker and place small stipple dot over any area you feel is too light.   You may not need to do either of two last steps.  It often turns out perfect without the additional steps!

Adding Texture to Fur with a Copic Colorless Blender

• Another great way to add texture to fur is with a Copic Colorless Blender.   I find this technique to appear like a soft fur and makes you want to run your fingers through it.   It is more subtle that the other techniques.   An important thing to remember is that a  Copic Colorless Blender is not a blender -   It is a "mover" of color.   That makes this perfect for establishing texture.  We will use this technique to move some of the color and creating a subtle texture. 
• Use the same Taupe  color combo on this image
• Lay down a base coat of the lightest color - E40.   Color the entire image using a very light touch.   Avoid going over the image more than once.   Every time you color over an image, you lay down one more layer of pigment and the image will become darker.   You want to preserve your highlight so easy does it! 
• If you are happy with your shadows, use your E47 and color over the top of your shadow area with small flicking strokes.  Continue with your mid-tones  - E44 and E42 and your highlight - E40.
• When you are happy with your shadows and highlights, it's time to start texturizing the fur.     Use the tip of the brush when using Sketch or Ciao markers or the nib of original markers for this technique.   Touch the tip to your colored image and hold some for 3-4 seconds and others for 4-5 seconds.   This will allow a variety of texture.  Repeat the process until your image has the texture you want.   
• Avoid holding the colorless blender on the edge of the image.   As the colorless blender spreads, the ink moves and you may have color spill over the edge of your image.   Start a little inside until you get a feel for how much the ink will spread. 
• Tip:  The color will become lighter as it dries.  It's best to work methodically over the image and then return to areas that are dry if you want more texture.    

Adding Texture to Fur with a Stippling Technique

• Stippling is a fun technique.   It can give some great texture!    
• Use the same Taupe color combo on this image. 
• Lay down a light single coat of your E40, your  highlight color.   This will retain your highlights and yet wet your image and that will allow your colors to blend easier. 
• Stippling is when you place the tip of your nib on the paper and then lift. It creates a dot.  The tip can remain on the paper from 1-4 seconds.   The longer the nib remains on the paper, the larger the dot will be.   It's good to alternate the time so the fur has interest and a lot of texture. This can be fun and relaxing!  
• Stipple with the mid-tone over the shadow area.  This will just map the area until you are sure you are happy with the shadows.  If satisfied, stipple the shadow, E47 over the top of your mapped shadows.  
• Continue to stipple with the dark mid-tone, light mid-tone and highlights.    You will be creating dimension and texture to the fur. 
• Tip:  In order to get the stippling to blend between colors,  start the next lighter color slightly over the darker and continue to stipple outward.   This technique bridges the two colors.  

   

Adding Texture With a Scumbling Technique

• Scumbling can sometimes be described as a random, scribbled texture.  This can often be done in figure eights and concave movements that create a coarse, dramatic texture.  This scribbling technique was used to add dimension  to the bear and texture to the fur.
• I used the same Taupe  color combo on this image.
• Lay down a very light single coat of E40 - your lightest highlight.
• Create random scribbling over the areas you want to be in shadow with your mid-tone.  If you are satisfied with the shadows, Scribble in small figure eights or concave shapes with your E47 directly over the shadow area.
• Continue to scumble with the next lightest colors until you finish your highlights.
• It will be important to start the scumbling over  the outer edge of the darker color - overlaping the colors  slightly.  this will allow your colors to blend.   If you need a little more help with blending the colors, you can use the tip to tip technique I discuss in my video.
