Tip of the Day:
Try using the complement of your shadow color to provide high contrast shadows.   Make a sandwich by Adding  your darkest color, applying the compliment on top and then your dark shadow color on top again.   Make sure to blend out with your midtones to make it smooth. .

I am spending a couple days at Yosemite for a little R&R.   It is raining really heavy outside but I guess it doesn't stop the stores from being open for a little shopping and there is a casino near by!   I am a lucky woman!

A Masculine Sympathy Card

Welcome my friends!    I am excited to post my card I created the The Outlawz: Twisted Thursday challenge.   Our new challenge is to create a "masculine card".    This theme just came in time.   I have have a friend who just lost his mom and I hope this brings him some comfort!

I used Nature's Greetings Stamp Kit (GKD) for my card and used a monochromatic theme.   Vintage Photo Distress ink was applied to the corners.   I used a new techndique for the background paper.  I sprinkled Copic Various Ink in a shallow container of water (different colors) and allowed the ink to float on top.   I slid my cardstock under the color and gently lifted it up and out of the water.   This produced a very delicate marblelized appearance.

I hope you like this and have a wonderful week!

Fun With Various Ink: Faux Stone Technique

MP011813a

Hello  and I hope you are having a great weekend!     It has been one chilly day here in Calaveras!    Brrrrrrr!

I just returned from a wonderful Copic Workshop at Anaheim.   I had the priveldge of meeting Collen Schaan and Debbie Olson.   The workshop was fabulous and well worth the time and money.  I had ink from head to toe.... Yes, it was very messy.   We learned many different uses for Copic ink and practiced different skin tones.   We learned some wonderful ethnic skin combos and also age specific.    I hope to share some projects over the next few weeks from techniques I have learned.

Today, I want to share one of the techniques I learned  in my Copic Inking class called "Copic Faux Stone".  The card was "cased" from one of the samples that Colleen showed us during our class.   I changed the colors of Ink and stamp.   I used a ribbon and different paper but I could not resist using the mosaic layout!

Supplies:
Image:  Crushin Gwen  (Some Odd Girl)
Glossy Paper (I didn't have any Yupo paper so I used glossy photography paper)
Wood block with felt
Coordinating or complementary Copic Various Ink
I didn't have any Metallic Mixative so I used Gold Leaf
Colorless Blender Solution
.

Copic Fauz Stone Technique
Isn't it pretty?!!!
I used Copic Various Ink
R58, R20, G40, G45, Colorless Blender Solution
and
Metallic Gold Leaf

A few drops of each solution were applied to the felt and dabbed on glossy paper.   I did not have any Yupo so I used glossy photography paper.
The paper was set aside to dry.

I used the heart stamp from Crushin Gwen (Some Odd Girl).   I wanted a small image that would fit in a 1 1/2 inch square.   The sentiment and heart were the perfect size!   The stamped image is bright red (Lady Bug by Memento) in the acutal card but it appears pink in my picture!    I cut (3) 1 1/2inch squares from my Copic Faux Stone paper and matted each square on red paper with 1/16th inch margin.     I made several different background papers and they each had a very different appearance.  I selected this sheet because it had a gorgeous red with a great complimentary green.    That is part of what makes this technique so much fun.   You never know what the outcome will be until you view the finished product.

The layers were adheared and a big red bow tied to the left side to balance the sentiment in the upper right hand corner.

Thank you for stopping by and spending some time.   I hope you enjoyed this technique and will want to try it on your own creative projects.   I must warn you - playing with the ink that is available on the market is very addictive!
Take care, be safe and happy crafting!
