The image was stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
A thin base coat of E30 was applied to allow the white to be covered.
This step does not need to be smooth.
mp041114abc
There are different methods of creating fur.   For this tutorial, I will use a "stipple" method.
My shadow color E35 was applied in a dotting or stipple method.  Just apply dots by lightly touching the tip
of the brush or nib to the paper.
The shadow area wis applied to areas that do to get a lot of light source and around the edges of the head to
allow the head to look rounded and to provide dimension.
Apply some shadow around the bears' mussel.  This will allow the nose or muzzel to pop out away from the face.
mp041114ab
The mid-tone, E33 was applied with the same dotted technique from the shadow area toward the center.
You can slightly overlap the two colors for blending.
Do you notice that we  are not flicking with the stipple technique?
mp041114bb
The lightest mid tone , E31 was applied in the same manner.
Slightly overlap from the E33 and stipple in a crescent manner toward the light source.
The crescent share will give "roundness" to the face.
mp041114cc
Lightly stipple the highlight, E30.
Avoid making this too dark because we will be coloring over it again later.
Remember that every time a color in applied, the intensity will increase and you will lose some of the highlight.
mp041114dd
I now like to repeat the process in order to allow my colors to blend better and improve the contrast
between the highlights and shadows.
E35 was applied.  This was followed by E33, E31 and E30.
By this time, the image should be having a dimensional look.
The stippling should look furry :D
mp041114gg
I added E37 very sparingly to areas few areas that have the greatest amount of shadow.
This is totally optional.   I just really like contrast.
The goal is to have the viewer look at the image just a little longer than they would naturally look.
Graphic designers state that high contrast will grab the viewers eye and their product would stand out! :D
An extra second or so is all that is needed in the world of sales :D
mp041114hh
The muzzel was finished with a little E31 and E30.
Think of a ball and apply the darker on the outer side blending toward the center.
The blush of R20 was applied to the cheeks and inner ear.
I used a Copic Black Multiliner to darken the eyes.
One cannot have a little bear without dark little button eyes!
IMG_5201 This is a sample of different fun things one can do with a Colorless Blender.
When an area is colored and the ink is dry, a colorless blender can be dotted or pushed in a line fashion to add texture.
Dots can be sporadic or lined up like bricks.  The lines can be in one direction of in a plaid formation.
The important thing to remember about a colorless blender is that it is NOT a BLENDER.
Colorless blender is actually a MOVER of color.  It will just move it into the surrounding area.
The brush or chisel can be used.
The method you choose depends on what you are trying to texturize and what  effect you are going for.
I will create a video on texturizing  next week!  It's a lot of fun!

mp041114ii
I used the stipple method for my fur and so I did a stipple method for texturizing the fur with my Colorless Blender.
The ink was dotted over the image in an up and down manner.
I avoided the perimeter of the face or areas I wanted to have the darkest shadows.
Texturizing with the colorless blender moves the ink away from the nib. Avoid moving the ink away from your dark shadows.
The highlights are not bright like they would be if you were coloring  human hair.
Fur does not reflect light well.   mp041114e
I hand qilled a little scruffy bear to coordinate with my image.
I used a crimper on my paper strips to make the texture match the furry texture of my image.

 This is the completed card.

These are always fun challenges!

Our super fabulous sponsors for this are:

I chose this super adorable image by Sherri Baldy for my challenge card today.

You Bring Sunshine to My Day

PT040714aa11
Welcome!
News!   I have just been selected to be a design team member for  Paper Temptress!
I can’t tell you how excited I am  to be a part of this fabulous team! How fun to be invited to play with all the wonderful card stock,  papers and crafting embellishments from Paper Temptress.   Now that is truly a TEMPTATION!
I have been really enjoying the sun as it peeps out from behind the clouds for the past couple of days.   I think that is what inspired me to pull out one of my stamps with a BIG sunflower!  They always remind me of warm and sunny days.
Supplies:Memento Black Tuxedo (Tsukeniko)
Stamp:  Stately Flowers 5 (GKD)
Paper:Cryogen White for my focal image
JellyBean Green card stock (layering)Designer Paper from my stash.
Ink:Copic Alcohol Ink markers,
Copic Opaque Ink andWatercolors (Ultramarine and Sap Green)
Embellishments:
Butterfly punch and
Flower Soft

PT040714c1
Copic Alcohol Ink  Used:
Flower:  Y11, Y15, Y18, YR23, YR24, YR28
Leaves  G40, G85, G94, G99 and YR23
The image was stamped on Cryogen White paper.
This works really well with all types of alcohol in markers.
It is a perfect blend of smooth and yet has a little tooth to grab the color.
The ink I used to stamp the image was Memento Tuxedo Black.
This is a dye ink that is super comparable with your markers and will not run or smear
with your alcohol ink and will not damage or discolor the marker nibs.
A light wash of watercolor was applied to the background. and
a few areas highlighted
with Copic Opaque White ink.

I hope you enjoyed my card I created and that you are having a fantastic week!

Hugs, Marie

Hello and welcome!

I have a mini tutorial for you today on coloring transparent balloons.    Balloons always remind me of birthdays and happy times.   I remember one birthday when my parents gave me a surprise birthday party and balloons were hanging from all the trees in the yard.   The memory still brings a smile to my face.

1.  Cut 11 in x 8.5 inch paper in portrait orientation and score at 4.25 inches.   This will make two card bases.
2.  Scor and fold the card base at 5.5 inches.   The fold will be on the top.   This will fit a standard 2A envelope. Tip:  Place a piece of paper over the top of your card stock before running the bone folder over the top.   This will prevent unwanted marks on your card base.
3.  Cut the base layer at 5.25 in x 4 in.
4.  Cut designer paper at 5 in x 3.75 in.
5.  Stamp your focal image on paper that is compatible with your alcohol ink markers.  I used X-Press It for this project but I often use Cryogen, as well.
mp040114.1
6.  The first balloon was colored with RV0000.  Extend the balloon so it overlaps into it's neighboring balloon.    Make the balloon a complete circle.
mp040114.2
7.  BV0000 was applied in the same manner to the second balloon.  Color the complete circle of the balloon.    See the transparency?   You can see the balloons in the back showing through the transparent balloons.
mp040114.3
8.  BG0000 was applied the a third balloon.
mp040114.4
9.    Y0000 is applied to the balloon in the foreground.   See how you can see through it and identify the balloons behind?
mp040114.5
10.  Each color is lightly re-applied over the top where they overlap.  Apply RV0000, BV0000, BG0000 and Y0000.
mp040114.611.  I added  shadow colors to the balloons the give them  dimension.Use the flicking method and blend your shadow toward the highlight.

12.  The process was repeated for the other balloons.  Just have fun with it.   Take one balloon at a time and don't let it overwhelm you!   You can do it! :D
mp040114.8
13.  The image was grounded with E30 and cast shadows were applied with BV00.
